What is an ECG?

An ECG, or electrocardiogram, measures the electrical activity of the heart. The examination produces a waveform that illustrates, among other things, the heart’s rhythm, the spread of electrical impulses, and any damage to the heart muscle, such as an enlarged heart or a heart attack.
