To be able to apply for a taxi driver’s ID, you’ll need the following:
- Complete and pass all three subtests included in the vocational competence test.
- Complete and pass the driving test.
You can then apply for a taxi driver’s ID via e-service at the Swedish Transport Agency.

Why do taxi drivers need a medical certificate?
When you work as a taxi driver, you have a great responsibility for your passengers and your fellow road users. Therefore, the Swedish Transport Agency requires a medical certificate in order for you to be able to obtain a taxi driver’s ID. To obtain the certificate, you need to undergo:
- Vision examination
- Review of your medical history
- Questions about drug or alcohol abuse
